Our Story
On the peaceful and tranquil shores of Lake Victoria, our Coffee enjoys the beautiful environment, stretching over the slightly elevated, scenic and undulating hills with remarkable soil and atmospheric conditions where the key quality Coffee flavours and aromas develop.
The farm was established in the 1950s as one of the very first commercially large-scale coffee farms that earned Uganda its current position on the global market prior to the political unrest of the 1970 and the lethal coffee wilt disease that wiped out large coffee areas in Uganda.
During the civil war of late 1970s and early 1980s the farm became desolate, untamed coffee trees turned into forests. Most of the coffee trees were out competed by other indigenous shrub trees thus turning the great coffee farm into a hunting and firewood collection Centre.
Rehabilitation of the farm began on January 28th, 2015, in partnership with Uganda Coffee Development Authority through supply of seedlings, the first planting was on Kijjudde division. We have since opened up other divisions and almost 1000 acres (300Ha) planted by 2020. The current planted area is in Buikwe and Mukono Districts, with plans to further expand in the years to come.
Salama Coffee Estate is set to become a leading Coffee producer and exporter in Uganda, with its Coffee being part of the larger Ugandan coffee recovery and development story – a legacy with which each of us are proud to be associated with.

History Of Coffee
Where the story began
Legend has it that coffee was discovered around 850 A.D. by Kaldi, an Abyssinian goatherder who lived at the source of the Blue Nile River. Observing his goats, Kaldi noticed that they would get very excited after chewing on some bright red berries, so he decided to try them and was soon overwhelmed by joy.
